THE EFFECT OF METHANOL EXTRACT OF Alstonia boonei ON HISTOPATHOLOGICAL DAMAGE CAUSED BY PLASMODIUM BERGHI BERGHI PARASITE IN THE LIVER OF INFECTED MICE

THE EFFECT OF METHANOL EXTRACT OF Alstonia boonei ON HISTOPATHOLOGICAL DAMAGE CAUSED BY PLASMODIUM BERGHI BERGHI PARASITE IN THE LIVER OF INFECTED MICE BY LASISI IYABO S. 12H/0043/ST-MBC A PROJECT PROPOSAL PRESENTED TO THE DEPARTMENT OF MICROBIOLOGY/ BIOCHEMISTRY, SCHOOL OF INDUSTRIAL AND APPLIED SCIENCE, FEDERAL POLYTECHNIC NEEKDE OWERRI. IN PARTIAL FULFILLMENT OF THE REQUIREMENTS FOR THE AWARD OF HND IN MICROBIOLOGY/ BIOCHEMISTRY. SUPERVISOR: MR. ONWUSONYE J.C. INTRODUCTION Malaria is a mosquito-borne infections disease of human and other animal caused by parasitic protozoans (a type of unicellular microorganism) of the genus plasmodium commonly the disease is transmitted by a bite from an infected female Anopheles mosquito, which induces the organisms from its saliva into a person’s circulatory system. In the blood, the parasites travel to the liver to mature and reproduce. Malaria causes symptoms that typically include fever and headache, which in severe cases can progress to coma or death. Five species of plasmodium can infect and be transmitted by humans, the vast majority of deaths are caused by plasmodium falciparum and plasmodium vivax, while plasmodium ovale and plasmodium malaria cause a generally milder form of malaria that is rarely fetal. Malaria is common in tropical and subtropical region because rainfall, warm temperature, and stagnant waters provide an environment ideal for mosquito larvae.
